WordPress Tech Tip: Featured Page Widget



There is a great deal of functionality with WordPress, especially with the themes we use. One of the tools that helps with the site layout and content features is the Featured Page Widget. With this you can display any page in a sidebar or widget area. You can control how much of the page is displayed, any images, and much more.

WordPress Tech Tip: SEO



SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is what you do on your site to raise its profile with search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Basically, you use keywords and phrases that are relevant to your topic. Think about what someone would type into the search engine to find what you offer. You will not only want to use these in your content, but also plug them into your sites SEO fields.

Hint: if you do not have SEO fields, add the plugin “All In One SEO.”

WordPress continues to grow in form and function. This is one of the great things about using it as your website platform, it will always have the latest technology and functionality. You must, however, be sure it is updated to take advantage of it. This video shows you how simple it is to update to the latest version of WP.

WordPress Tech Tip: Updates



WordPress is in a continual state of development. This is great because the functionality of the site grows and adapts with the latest technology and tools. The Plugins are updated quite frequently. You will want to check periodically on these plugins to make sure they are updated. It is a simple process as this video shows.

WordPress Tech Tip: Adding Posts


In the dashboard select Posts.

Select Add New.

Enter the Title, Text, and/or Coding in the appropriate fields.

In the right-hand menu, select the appropriate Category.

In the right-hand menu, enter Tags under Post Tags.
Tags are on-site keywords that identify the post content.

Either publish the post, select edit just above the publish to schedule a time to post, or save draft if you want to work on it later.
